The Dating Game

She reached for something that wasn’t there
flattery was all it was

he told her she has beautiful eyes
(which, she does)

told her she is so pretty
(which she is)

told her he never tells any lies
so she should believe what he says
(and, she did)

yet,

he did lie
he already has a girlfriend
and, was playing her.

There is a child in everyone of us

I know that ache of disappointment
she feels, as a teen with the world about to
open and
life is full of choices

hugged her and told her
‘plenty more fish in the sea’
chalk it up to experience
he was not worthy
but,
some other boy will be.

My girl met another boy she didn’t know the other day and thought he was sooooo ‘hot’ They exchanged cell numbers and were texting back and forth. He told her how beautiful she was and that he has never said that to anyone else blah, blah. Turns out he already has a girlfriend and some girls who know both him and my girl have told her he is such a player.
Of course, she was so down. I told her to forget him, focus on her schooling and future career, there’s plenty of time for boys.
Teenage disappointments and boys is all new territory for me…. *Gulps. LOL

That pic was taken last semester on a field trip. Chloe is in the center.

Smoke & Mirrors

I reached for something gleaming
thinking it a jewel
maybe I’m a fool, falling for
smoke and mirrors.

Real life is not as we dream
as night pulls down her shades
our days charades may end then too
when the last fascade finally
lays sleeping.

The moon was up all night
gave me a half-hearted smile
as she sat amid the early blue
maybe after painting the town red
she was also using those
smoke and mirrors to hide the
fact she should’ve already given
way to day and, gone off to her bed.

I was looking for someone
whose soul wasn’t there
in that soft fall of
cushion and clouds

Sometimes friendship
itself is the error
when make-up’s applied
so effectively
behind the
smoke and mirrors.

Against all Odds

 In the quiet moments
you feel the call
(I know you do)
from a distance no
matter the miles between
it’s only one breath away
for hearts that beat
in time.

In disbelief
I questioned your reasons
yet,
held on fast to the dream.

Paths took different twists
and turns whether they were
dark to light, wrong or right.

(Que sera, sera)
What will be, will be.

The secret to keeping love
is to be brave enough to
let it go.
Holding on too tight
suffocates
breaks those fragile wings
that love gives us
to fly.

Laughter draws me into
its depths
a heart could sink or swim
in its tuneful melody.

Friendship walks hand in hand
with love and understanding
still holding on
against all odds and time
that stands between.

If I Could Touch This Memory

IF I COULD TOUCH THIS MEMORY

Reaching for unseen truths
in that temple of the fates
Such depths, invoked.

Lit from within
in that light
dispelling darkness

No…there was no fear.

Cushioned in the friendship
of your soul
I found a soft place to fall.

Free then,

tip-toed into ecstasy and
danced the dance of forever.

Oh, if I could touch this memory

This find of buried treasure

when,

in those halls of quite wonder
nothing was awry

and willingly,

I opened up to loving you
changing forever
the colours of my mind.

Love changes, everything.

“A Reason A Season or A Lifetime”

“A Reason, A season or, A Lifetime”

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person. When someone is in your life for a REASON . . . It is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or, spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realise is that our need has been met. The prayer you sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.
Some people come into your life for a SEASON … Because your turn has come to share, grow or, learn. They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.

The hardest part is in understanding who is meant to stay and, letting go of who is not.
