All you need is Love

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVESensing every sadness
as do fingers know the cold
but, warm in my sanctuary
music sweeps me far away
into acoustic waves, aware
the past must lay in corners
collecting as dust of all
the ages.

I imagine the sun’s warmth on skin
remembering the magic
a loving touch can bring.

The stars shine bright
some even wink an eye
across the river of night’s gentle flow
as the heaven’s share
their tranquility with this
present world of warring warriors.

Sometimes it’s fine to reminisce.
To look back once in a while
before we completely turn the page.

I miss the swinging 60’s and
the fight for peace was a
peacefully chanted rage of
‘make love not war’
and when the Beatles sang
‘All you need is love,
love is all you need’

but then, I remember it
with sadness
because…. even now
we still don’t
‘Get it’

*No, I don’t wish I was back in the 60’s. Quite happy where I am in life…:)

  1. These are the truest lines in the piece:

    “Sometimes it’s fine to reminisce.
To look back once in a while
before we completely turn the page.”

    Excellent write.

  2. Perfectly fine to look back and remember but not to linger and be left wistful as to what once was…that is too painful. Very nice. I really loved those swinging 60s too!

  3. Bren, it’s long time I blogged but back to your page and I feel home. Beautiful poem! Loved too many lines to quote here. Keep writing! 🙂

  4. but then, I remember it
    with sadness
    because…. even now
    we still don’t
    ‘Get it’

You make my heart skip and sink..but, there is hope yet.

  5. ..very nice…i always have soft side for classic things and memories like when you mention the beattles here… and the war for peace… enjoyed reading it and perhaps will read it for some more time…

    good day!

How very true Bren! Why is it so elusive! Why greed by some should reflect as obstacles to achieving peace! Nicely!

  7. This is epic, you’ve nailed an excellent strong poem without being overbearing, great!!! We don’t get it……right on baby.

  8. Pretty pathetic as we simply do not, I guess many suffer from brain rot? haha but with a little touch, things can happen much.

Yes! Wish I’d written this. It was so very evocative of an intense and fondly remembered past. Brilliant job. Thanks for transporting me back to a time of optimism and hope.

    loved this, Bren.

… and you’re right. no, we still don’t get it.
    powerful piece.

  11. There is something about those moments in our youth, when rebellion would definitely make the difference, political landscapes could be changed, and love would conquer all. Yet somewhere along the way it gets lost, in our work. In our adult trivialities…and yes, we still don’t get it….but I’d like to think we can still feel those feelings, still change things…if we really try. But how I’d love to go back to those times and places – great poem. Loved it

  12. true and so sad that we still don’t seem to “get it”.. love all the images you weave into this…my fav is the past laying in corners
collecting as dust of all the ages… and now you will hear me hum all evening all you need is love…smiles

  13. Wow… love your ending. I couldn’t agree more, though… love IS all we need.

  14. Bren, I enjoyed the 60’s but don’t think I would like to relive them….but I do love the reminiscing about old times, old friends, and the things that made the 60’s live forever. And oh yes, the music! Good writing, Bren.

  15. Yeah, for all the songs of love it seems that they are ultimately songs of tragedy because “we still don’t get it”. Nicely written.

  16. oy poignant end there….sad that we dont…and there are times i look back on fondly…maybe more so now than when i was in them…i like the little bits of magic you weave in as well…the magic
    a loving touch can bring….the wink….nice….
