Sleepy Hollow

Although he never was one to
allow walls of fear to brook
any countenance
his bravado was suddenly
quite rocky.

New waves of doubt swept across
his mind as his horse trotted
through the forest sending
startled birds leaping from
boughs into the air from
their sheltered dry-wood trees

for,
this was no Sunday morning jaunt
this was Sleepy Hollow
and, the phantom was afoot.

Never thought I’d enjoy this movie but did. Johnny Depp is fun to watch.

  1. I noticed Sleepy Hollow post and had to read it…it’s one of my favourite movies…just watched it again two nights ago… anyway loved your poem, an enjoyable read!

  2. Hi Brenda! Very spooky and well written–liked that image of startled birds leaping into the air from their safe roosts, and …Love Johnny Dep!

  3. wonderful suspense looming! I hope you will join me and others around the world in creating a gratitude quilt of words. To learn more about this project and how you can participate read the white box at the top of my blog. It would be wonderful to have you be a part of this.

  4. I loved the eeriness of this poem, Bren! Nice write. I used to love The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, but haven’t read it now in a long, long time.

  5. The legend comes to life…Hmm – I might have to check out if the flick with Johnny D is for rent. With the cost of even early movie showings up I only go to those flicks I really want to see…(like the upcoming new Bond flick).

Thanks for visiting last weeks whirl. The new story verse is here:

Though I also wrote one with the same list that isn’t a story verse:

  6. Wasn’t a bad movie I will say. Although some of Depp’s stuff is complete crap, he always has to play the weirdo chap.

  7. smiles…i remember reading the story in school all those years ago…and watching the cartoon…and i think an older movie…i dont know that i have seen the one with depp though…i do enjoy him as an actor…he takes some of the oddest roles too…ha…

  8. I came to read yours before trotting off to write my own, because you enticed me with your comment about phantom and hollow. The rising birds is my favorite image, and I LOVE that you used brooks as a verbs. Johnny Depp rocked Ichabod Crane in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. This was a great choice for these words, Bren. Brava!
