Is she there to tease his senses
drive him crazy as he sails
the celibate salty seas.
Venus Goddess of love or, of torment.
Are you the dream he longs for
or,
does he really hold a woman
in his hand
Which is the smooth operator
and anyway
My mother used to say:
‘Never marry a sailor’
(not that I ever would)
when asked why she’d simply reply
‘Because they usually have
a girl in every port.’
I wonder.

Well written and very clever, Brenda.

Love the phrasing and words you chose for this rhythmic piece!
Celibate salty seas…nice one…
A round of applause for Mrs Palmer and her five daughters, and a delightfully witty poem , thanks !
celibate salty seas. Lovely turn of phrase.
“the celibate salty seas.”
“Are you the dream he longs for
or,
does he really hold a woman
in his hand
“Which is the smooth operator”
To answer those would give a way the “I wonder”!!
Makes me wonder, too…
=)
really liked the questions your piece poses..x
The answer to both of your poetic questions ~~ yes.
Celibate salty seas..
I never thought of the sea that way!!
footprints of venus
And some very good advice that was! I love the questions you present.
Such an enjoyable interpretation! Thanks.
As he sails the celibate salty sea…love that. Shore leave and Venus…an explosive combination.
Mother might have been right. But, maybe in this picture Venus held him tight. well , done
Yeah wouldn’t want to attempt that, keeping track of one is enough, but sure many a man has tried.
We can’t believe everything our mothers say…
Interesting story 🙂
mans got a keep warm you know…and that far from home who will know…but then again, the fates have a way of messing that up…i think it probably happened to many….
Oh that temptress Venus paying back for the sailor’s roving eye! I just love the idea of celibate salty seas. I have a friend who works on cruise ships; he may see it differently:)
nicely done 🙂
Yes, every mother believes so! After all what to expect on shore leave upon leaving the celibate salty seas? Nicely Bren!
My Dad was a sailor, but without a roving eye! LOL 🙂
