Lace curtains rise and fall
billowing, almost in time
with my breathing (I note)
as I watch
their silent play
aware, they usher in
first cool breeze of day.
Rain falls now in
spit, spit drops
I pause a while to go
and feel their welcome
touch on heated skin.
The lamplight ‘neath
which I write is pretty
reflected in the window
so too, are my neighbours lights
across the road
shinning in new puddles.
This is my own comfort zone
my retreat which brings rejuvenation.
These are my life’s riches
a few of my favourite things.

Carry on Tuesday #168 These are a few of my favourite things
So soothing and lovely……
Such a soothing scene you paint with your words. I could feel my heart slowing to the gentle rhythms. s.
I love this. Sweet rain, so much better than the wild storm we had tonight, although the storm did, indeed, water my lawns, and I needn’t bother for several days now.
A beautiful write, Bren.

I loved the gentleness in this poem and the way you captured the essence of the moment especially the ‘ spit, spit drops’
This is wonderful–perfect for reading on a hot afternoon. The relief of evening breeze and gentle rain–lovely.
At the end of a long day (and it’s still 100 degrees at nearly 7pm!) I could almost feel the spit, spit drops of cooling, soothing rain. So lovely!
Here’s my “favorite things” post… http://whenwordsescape.wordpress.com/2012/08/13/love-it-a-latte/
Beautiful distraction Bren! Calming, reflective, and the rain connects us to nature!

Every morning should start this way.
A lovely peaceful comfort zone.
i could wrap your words around me like a comforter ~ really lovely!
♥
I like the comfort zone….very relaxing to read the words ~
Oh you took me right there! Lovely.
Thanks for sharing this! I can picture you writing now.
Simple pleasures are often the best….nice write…..
Raindrops and roses…
Such simple pleasures. Delightful.
cozy, i must say. love the feel!
I can imagine you there with the lace and the window and the glow of light near and far, all joined by the gentle rhythm of the rain–sitting there and writing this in a moment of harmony.
I like the way you capture the shades of your environment and bring them alive for the reader.
this feels so gentle…much serentiy in just being in that moment…from the lull of the rain to the soft light you write in…smiles.
Appreciating the little things even if they aren’t your curtains, such a thief hahaha
Not much better for refuge than a gentle breeze and a lovely lace curtain……..
Beautiful!
🙂
Ah, the simple things. It just takes a closer look, but that effort is amply rewarded with so much beauty. I loved this peaceful, comforting take on the prompt. Well done!
Sitting at “your table”, Bren … reading this again and again … thank you … love you …cat.
You have a gift for the soothing. This is lovely!
