Secrets and Dreams

The boy had exceptional talent
as a graffiti street artist
but, his real day job was helping
his dad paint walls of
other people’s well-to-do homes.

He had developed a secret crush
on the daughter of the man’s latest
house they were painting
but she was quite a cut above his means
so, he wrote his wish on a wall
which he’d soon cover with
a lick or two of paint
and only he and his dog
(his best pal)
would share his secret of one day being
‘as-good-as-them’ dreams.

  1. A fascinating take on this prompt! And I love your usage of “lick” in this piece. Beautifully and cleverly done.

  2. It is so true that pic or painting can send your fancy spinning. I believe that for many of us and artists included have been the inspiration for ideas, stories and poetry. It is creative writing at some of its best and this is no exception. Great piece, Bre!

  3. smiles….i hope he does not have to hide that love forever….you never know…maybe she is peeking around the corner at the cute boy painting….smiles….you give his dark picture life….

  4. Sharing his dreams with one who will not judge, of course he eats his own poo too and sniffs a butt, so maybe not the best one to share with hahaha

  5. So positive and uplifting. This is the stuff of daydreams, Bren. Thank you for sharing your philosophy so eloquently. =D

  6. You are right, my comment is not here, tho I think this is where I put it. I am trying again:

    “Maybe she will . . . ”
(Now, dear best friend, this is between us!)

I absolutely love the story you imagined and I hope it comes out right for the boy.
