We Must Be The Change

Sometimes we get stuck in a rut
finding we are not happy.
The soul cries.
Eyes shed its tears in
drops of liquid pain.

We can’t see the wood for
the trees and, sleep is
not a friend.

we need to see this
pain as the reminder
of our need to change.
It is often the teacher
we choose to ignore.

The heart and mind sometimes
lie to each other to keep
within that comfort of
the known
the soul always seeks its
truths in light and
not in darkness.

Things cannot change unless
we become willing to take
that leap of faith
that one small step of
hope and trust it needs
to change the view of
our world.

we must be the change.

  1. what we want will cause discomfort, but we will be rewarded. i love so much about this, but mostly that it is so plain-spoken and perfect that way. growth in the light, and we must step into it. it’s one of those truths we know when we hear it. so well written.

  2. When I was very young I was very sickly as well … my dad organised a radio from somewhere for to listen to the morning programms for schoolchildre … Ghandi was a favourite topic … I learned about compassion for you underpreviledged fellow human beings … since my family was looked down by “society” I always felt a great kinship with Ghandi, s words … thanks, B, my friend. Love, c.

  3. I like it that you put here that pain is reminder, a signal rather than something that must be avoided or ignored or just moved on from. Insightful read.

  4. an excellent quote bren..and love how you play off it in your poem..so true..there’s no change if we don’t take that leap of faith and let it start in us

  5. Yes, each of us must be the one. We cannot look around and expect others to do what we should / can do. As the plaque on Harry Truman’s desk said, “The buck stops here.”

  6. Bren, you have written to one of my favorite quotes, from one of my heroes. So true, the shift in perception that makes all the difference in our lives. A hard lesson to grasp when one is young and suffering, but it all comes very clear later on. Great writing, and a wonderful philosophy, kiddo!

  7. True, as things are staring us right in the face yet we remain in our rut most times. Can be harder to change but must be done.
