If I must dream
then let it be thoughts
as light as air
with skies of blue
oceans too and
not a nightmare
for instead
I see this scene
unwrapped
in chaotic dream.
A fallen bride whose groom
already has an eye on
his next conquest
and,
A watcher in the sky who
cannot disguise a smile upon
seeing the scarlet woman
so intent on
painting the town red.

You interpreted the whole picture wonderfully! A very fitting and enjoyable read!
Beautifully done…my most favorite yet.
Yes she is definitely painting the town red. Loved the “watcher in the sky”. Well done

Hahaha. How true
A dream of a poem from Chagall’s dreamy picture.
Love it – love the twist in the tale!

oh, my, too much bloody red. lol You really did this piece justice. Way to go, Bren!
I like your Red Roofs vision.
And the way you express it here.
Priceless!!!
Did I comment already? I thought I did but don’t see it. I liked this and the last line was a perfect wrap up.
The poem’s feel compliments that of the painting perfectly.
What a merge of colour and words! Wonderful write to the picture. 🙂
Your verse could only come with that uncanny eye for details. You smoothly foretell a drama that may unfold later.Great write!

The painting is like a dream.
What a great response to the prompt. I, too, love the fallen bride and roving-eyed bridegroom, but, even more, the watcher in the sky.
I love Marc Chagall’s work … and feel rather rotective of any interpretation, but you did a marvelous job, Bren … Simply marvelous … I am at awe …At him and at you …
Blue skies and love are far more wonderful to consider than thinking about what really transpired in Anatevka. I like your thinking here, Daydreamer. Thank you for the tantalizing imagery.
Red is the color of danger! Love how you have connected this poem to Chagall’s Red Roof painting!
really some outstanding images here. the fallen bride is my favorite stanza, yet you followed it up so strong with the watcher in the sky too, so it’s one of the two. But very nice inspiration from the painting. Thanks
I think your “dreamer” approach is totally justified – by Chagall’s life.
Love it! You do well with these “mags.”
very clever!! i had to look at the picture again after reading your work…very well viewed!!!
Let’s stray away from the scary thoughts and remain in the blue, or at least a bright yellow sunny day and nothing to do with black and blue or red or brown as that just be eww.
I like the different twist here…very creative…
Yeah, that watcher, smiling.
Men. Pfffttt
i love the pun you have created here!! tooooo kewl!!!
oy…on the lost suitor already with his eye on another and she painting the town red…yes lets stop and think good thoughts…smiles.
Such a difficult task. Amazing what you saw in the painting.
so cleverly wrapping these details around each other to make them interreact.
