I gave the gift of an Angel
prayed for it to
watch over
…protect
as I too was given mine
because love gives without
expectation of reward
or return
and,
like a rose, I opened myself up
to grow within its light.
Drink with me to days gone by
for they will never come again
nor should they
Yet,
memories will remain in gold
…untarnished
But on days like these
it’s nice to cup that warmth
Hold it for a while
sipping at the splendor
Life’s richest palate upon the tongue
slip it down
blend it with our inner spectrum
breathe it quietly for a while
revel in its feel
then,
with a sigh of blessed gratitude
give it back unto the world.

Puts back the peace of self with smoothness. Gives a great feeling!
Hank
a much needed gentle sigh
Such an exquisite play on words and feelings. So deep, delicate and lovely, just like the Rose and you.
Another beautiful write! It seems as though each one you present is better than those before it! Wonderful!
So beautiful …the picture of the rose is exquisite and your poetry is on a par …beautfiul thanks again x x
Important and wonderful to feel that gratitude. K.

That last stanza is just sensuous in its beauty. I really enjoyed this.
giving it up is the ultimate gift to one’s self and the world. you write this delicately and beautifully. your words play off the image so well. it’s a special treat as a reader.
Indeed, how beauitful love is! I truly enjoyed reading this poem, and I want to bask in love, too! =] Bravo.
This is a beautiful poem … I enjoyed it from beginning to end – I loved how it looked on the page and everything!
My favourite lines:
Drink with me to days gone by
for they will never come again
nor should they
Yet,
memories will remain in gold
…untarnished
I’ll drink to that!
lots of really nice sentiments here. The opening stanza with the idea of reward and return and the ending stanza I see as an appreciation/obligation type of message, which I agree with. Beautifully displayed piece. Really like these lines a lot:blend it with our inner spectrum
breathe it quietly for a while
revel in its feel
then,
with a sigh of blessed gratitude
give it back unto the world.
Great job. Thanks
So beautiful, entrancing….I fell into a spell as I read. Love that the memories bring gratitude and that you then pass those outward to the world……….sigh. Just beautiful.
I agree with Ayala about those lines… They snagged my heart and wouldn’t let go. I also loved the image of cupping the warmth and sipping. Just a lovely piece!
Serene and beautiful…love these lines…breathe it quietly for a while
revel in its feel
then,
with a sigh of blessed gratitude
give it back unto the world.
Transcendental! Glorious poem…
Really left me in a state of calm!
Poppy 🙂
Very interesting. Lots of pertinent thoughts throughout this piece. I particularly like the part about looking back and perusing good times in our lives like a warm drink that’s carefully sipped, aromatic and full.
this poem, is love.
and that is love, that giving back.
very lovely.
Just gorgeous!
Came here straight from Tash’s place, where the mood today is a bit angry – justifiably so – so to find this soothing, calming peaceful poem was balm for the soul.
Beautiful thoughts here. I agree about the meditative quality.
This makes me all pink and happy now! Coming from darker closeted poems to this one makes my heart sing. Thanks!!
xo
gorgeous!
Such a nice surreal scene you set. But warm apple juice would make me fret. So I’ll take that cold and let the rest of the warmth take hold..haha
sigh bren…inhaled so it can be exhaled out to the world again…some great tranquility in your lines today…
written with a gentle pen… lovely
I like the blessed gratitude…give it back unto the world. Lovely ~
Happy day to you ~
This poem moved me. A reminder of the angels watching over us all, especially in those days gone by… The idea of “cupping the warmth” and giving it to the world is entrancing. Thanks so much for this message of love and peace, Amy
