In all honesty
I expected something
but life has shown
(once again)
I ought not to
have at all.
I am the shadow of love
where once, I was its
sparkle in her eyes
But
Nothing is lost
because
she was not who
I thought she was
Just the figment of a yearning
that simply played games
in my mind.

The promt is the photograph and the thoughts we take from it. At first I thought she was wearing a fake beard *rolls eyes* until I enlarged the picture to discover it’s a bow around her neck. Apparently her husband (the photographer) liked to play with shadows and light.

Oddly, I can’t see if I commented on your poem or not. The preceding comments are not visible to me. I appreciate how you handled this picture; but it truly was not a picture that I had anything to write about. Oh well. You pulled it off wonderfully.
Your poem is great and the pic is strange, it looks like a hair piece on the shadow’s head.
a mind game! awesome…
what do we need when we have all the things by mind trap. ah, that’s my interpretation.. but your writing hide so many interpretation depends on various perspective. 🙂
Often what we thought as perfect is just a shadow that disappears…love your interpretation of the photograph…
i like your interpretations of “shadow of love”

Wow! I love this! My favorite one so far! 🙂
Ho I thought it was a beard too. I love your poem…….especially “just the figment of a yearning”…..
DD, so true. This was poignantly rendered; you remind us that the quality that attracts you to a person at the beginning may often be the quality that turns you off later, as well. Love this, a great write. Peace, Amy

Best of all lines… nice intrpretation of tht image !!
Few people turn out to be who we think they are…
awwww we have a similar poem today! lol!!!!
yes, we tend to deceive ourselves sometimes. I think it is from wanting the dream so much, so badly, sort of like we project it onto the other.
There’s this quote I love about liking the potential more so than what is, hmmm so I have learned to look first, happy Monday!
love is not tangible, it’s like a shadow
Hate mind games, wish they make truthful claims and none of this mind game crap. Oops didn’t mean to sound like a bitter chap..haha
Love the title. Gives clue to the tale about to be told, of self-deception and wishes gone awry. Pleasingly constructed, too!
this is lovely-albeit sad…reality strikes again
Excellently deep. do any of us know who we really are?
wow. been there honey! with one who loved to play in my head! so happy to be free! awesome work!
