White Horses

Just beyond the horizon
utopia waits
a thousand years between
has no depth or meaning
to fill the void
… the longing.

An unwinding stream flows
through my world of blue
on its voyage to meet
distant stars which
haunt my nights
with whispers from

Ocean surf brings the
wild horse’s I ride upon to
drift away on evening tides
time after time.

Out of the depths
profound passion joins
a dance of clouds
which mingle with
silver slips of moonlight
to caress that ache

Safe within his cathedral haunts, perched upon the highest ledges he squats, watching. Espies the dancing girl and, his heart raced. Why it should do so, he didn’t know but now, she was going to be burned alive. She’d saved his life once, took pity on him by giving him water whilst he was locked in the stocks and intense heat threatened to permanently douse his blessed light.
Fleet of feet he swings through the arched hoops and hollers, a swing here, drop there, he expertly topples and spins. Soon reaching the churches outer hallowed shallows he burst into the baying crowd causes them to jump with fright at his ugliness as he pushes them back with all of his might. With a swiftness of hands he’d soon broken the bolt to the shackles they’d chained her to the burning stake. “Forgive me.” He asked, gathered her into his arms and throwing her over his shoulder he then stepped up his pace, raced back through the crowd shouting aloud….”Sanctuary.”

Of course most of you will know that this is loosely based on the famous author Victor Hugo‘s

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
I mostly remember the movie of this story with Charles Laughton and Maureen O’Hara in the starring roles.

It really is a story of beauty & the beast and of love.
