Space and Time

Thoughts quietly take to flight
given their wings
are now timeless and free to paint
their own canvas in an endless sky.

Seasons change with gracious days as
souls that open to love expand beyond
all obstacles in their way.

There are none so wise as those
who know
they know nothing.

Each breath
Each tear
Each thought

A silent wish or, prayer
carried on gentle sighs
to where eternity bears a name
in unbreakable forms
of testimony.

All around us

there are undying legacies to its cause
no matter the space between words
no matter the depth between lines.

  1. Classically. The Fool is the beginning of wisdom, as you say. At first you must know that you know nothing. Then you must begin to understand exactly what it is you don’t know. And THEN try to know it…

    Thanks for this. Stimulating read.

  2. “There are none so wise as those
    who know
    they know nothing.”

I tell my kids a version of this all the time. It’s so true, the more you learn, the less you know.

Love this poem, a beautiful message.

  3. I absolutely adore that first verse…beautiful! And so true the message behind your poem. Wonderfully written.

  4. ‘There are none so wise as those
    who know
    they know nothing.’

It’s always a winner to reference Socrates in my eyes. Beautiful poem.

  5. souls open to love..yes that is the trick…and it knows no obstacle…but what do i know, i know nothing…smiles. ha. really a nicely penned verse and i particularly like the last stanza….

  6. “A silent wish or, prayer
    carried on gentle sighs
to where eternity bears a name
    in unbreakable forms
    of testimony.”
    exactly how I feel tonight… 😦

  7. Thank you for the immense respite to be found in your poem. There’s a cool mountain breeze blowing in through the window, the perfect accompaniment to your beautiful words.

  8. “There are none so wise as those
    who know
    they know nothing.”

So very true. Beautifully done. Love that last stanza too. Something about your style leaves me with such a feeling of peace.

  9. Such depth and space, whoops was that already said?..haha…Very compelling verse, definitely an eternal feeling to your words.

  10. For me, still musing over the funeral I attended this morning, there is a sense of freedom in this and a certain wistfulness. The 5th stanza, especially, caught my attention.

  11. This is beautiful writing. I think we are living in eternity now. It IS all around us today…we just have to look.

  12. “There are none so wise as those
    who know
    they know nothing.”

Yes, there is always something to learn, always. This was filled with many little treasures 🙂

  13. The universe is always expanding, along with our thoughts, if we believe we are free to do so ~

    I like these lines:

there are undying legacies to its cause
no matter the space between words
no matter the depth between lines.

  14. Oh Wow DayDreamerToo…. what a beautiful and expressive. I concur, a lot of depth, it lingers. Thanks so much for sharing

  15. They who know nothing, know all. Beautifully put.

And to be reminded of the endless sky is to be reminded of the endless opportunity for good things, unbreakable indeed.

  16. i like how you came back to ‘thoughts’ a second time. you have a style all your own. and i like the play off the title in the closing, and how i was waiting for you to repeat the title in the closing, as a matter of fact, but you slipped “lines’ in instead of ‘time.’ that was a nice little jingle at the end i wasn’t expecting.

  17. When you mention the depth between lines, there is definitely a LOT of depth in these lines of yours. I love “free to paint their own canvas in an endless sky”. So beautiful. Your last lines are especially wonderful.
