Sharing the Loneliness

I felt your ache today
it matched my hearts own.

Pull the strings too tight
it might just cut me deep
then, see me bleed upon the
blade of your pain.

My sorrows were yours
and you are my tomorrows.

But the past is
dead and gone away.

Today the angels wept
for you
left their tears
as gifts of dew
glistening in the dawn
and my tomorrow woes may
never come.

So I took you in my arms
and held you close
(small comfort)
and you wept the tears
that I no longer cry
(another silent sigh).

Your breast heaves
the heaviness of hearts
that have no home.

I shared your pain today
we were together
but yet, remained
….alone.

There are all kinds of loneliness, we can be in a long-term relationship yet, still feel utterly… alone. I wrote this a very long time ago but it was applicable  to the Poets United Think Tank prompt this week.

  1. Oh this is really nicely done. I loved –

    “Pull the strings too tight
it might just cut me deep
then, see me bleed upon the
    blade of your pain.”

Nice writing! and perfect for this prompt. 🙂

  2. “Today the angels wept
    for you
    left their tears
as gifts of dew” BEST LINE on here, love love love this 🙂

  3. Very well written, capturing so much of the experience, the sadness and the awareness so painful in their intensity. Difficult subject and you handled it with the soft warm tenderness it deserves,

  4. To be alone with the people around….or to feel alone next to the beloved one…
You’ve expressed it so strongly using gorgeous words…
    Beutifully done

  5. it’s hard enough to feel alone in a crowd. it’s so much worse when you feel alone in a relationship of two.

perfect for the prompt. my heart hurts now.

  6. This is absolutely beautiful. Written by one who has known pain and who knows how to comfort. I especially love “today the angels wept for you…” Beautifully written, heartfelt.

  7. Daydreamer, it’s true, the loneliness while in a relationship. That was my first marriage, for sure. Your words are so carefully honed and honest, I really appreciated the sadness conveyed. Mine is about the irony of enjoying being lonely…

  8. Right now I’m in the middle of this, yesterday I was talking to a friend about how I have people around me but I feel alone, not a good thing

  9. A very strong piece of writing, which catches all of the internal emotions, as well as the tears.
A deep sadness and overwhelming loneliness.
